The Company’s basic objective is to promote environmental and social responsibility through a holistic approach to all our actions and initiatives by adopting sustainable development principles such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). IAHC is committed to continually assess its environmental and social performance while striving on daily basis to define and address any action to minimize its footprint to the environment and to the local communities. Our activities are in compliance with applicable national, European and/or international legislation, policies, and regulations relating to the protection of the Environment and Social Responsibility.

Our Strategy is designed based on the needs of the Airport, as well as the local community. As a result, we have adopted sustainable development principles to promote responsible behavior and contribute to a better world.

At Heraklion International Airport of Crete, we envision that our airport is a vehicle for tackling climate change, improving the well-being of our visitors, employees and the community around us, and promoting the local economy. From the very beginning of the construction phase, we have committed to comply with the environmental legislation, aiming beyond that, by obtaining the internationally recognized LEED certification, the implementation of a sustainable approach in the design, construction and operation of our airport.

We have already set strict quality procedures certified with ISO 9001 and are in the process of structuring, for the period of operation, a strong Environmental Management System governed by the ISO 14001 standard, having an energy management system based on the ISO 50001 standard.

As a member of the ACI (Airports Council International), we participate in the Air Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program.
